A solar flare on February 17 was accompanied by a coronal mass ejection that appears to be headed almost directly for Earth. Geomagnetic activity, including aurora, may be observed beginning February 19th or 20th.

release, it seems very likely that a major CME impact is going to occur this

The blank section in the trace is where data was not being received or graphed. Note the very sudden impulse that "hit" a little after 0900 UTC this morning. That "signature" is definitely something much different than the usual increases as the flux rises when an impact from a CME begins.
