They woke us up at 6:00 this morning, blasting
horns and sireens and yelling that we had to get out, shining spotlights
in the house... the cops are now
walking and riding bikes up and down the streets, trying to get people to
leave.
Those of us who stayed put are fine. But, two of my daughters took their kids and went inland this morning. When they got to Orlando there were no rooms and Emergency Services told them to go to Daytona Beach. Guess where the eye went? Right smack frickin´ dab over their Best Western on Daytona Beach. From 11:15 - 11:30 they had 85 mph winds, all of the windows blew out of the hotel, part of the roof blew off and the whole place is soaked. They haven´t had power for hours. When it started getting bad, hotel management brought them duct tape and told them to put their mattresses against the windows and tape everything down. Region 10656 maintains an ominous size and spawned a major class X1.0 solar x-ray flare at 18:12 UTC on 13 August. The event was fairly brief and was not associated with substantial radio emissions. In addition, current LASCO imagery does not reveal any significant Earthward-directed coronal mass ejection activity. Another fairly short-duration major class M7.4 flare is in-progress at the time of this writing from Region 10656. Although it, too, does not appear to be associated with any significant radio emissions. It is too early to determine if any coronal mass ejection activity will accompany this event. The potential for additional major flare activity remains high.
