Subj: Mystery 8.4 quake Date: 98-06-08 14:41:54 EDT From: lwmb@psln.com (Linda Wymore) Reply-to: lwmb@psln.com To: yinpa@aol.com, phikent@aol.com [posted to Jim Berkland's site: http://www.syzygyjob.com/board/?topic=topic4 ] Mystery quake... Once I was finally able to get into the IDC site I decided to see what else has been going on in the area. Here below are the quakes in the region for the last 2 weeks from today. The 8.4 was listed on 6/5. Note the *'s a,b,c,d - they are the only 4 quakes on this list to report from station ZAL (which was the one that gave the 8.4 magnitude). Note also.. all but one of the quakes is at depth 0.0km.. which I understand is often a clue to nuclear tests. Unless this is also sometimes the default when there is no information. The number just before the depth is the number of stations reporting. In the case of the 8.4 event, 6 stations reported something but I could only see 2 magnitudes given 8.4 and 2.2. Stations don't always seem to report mag. though. Note also... somewhere up in that area is the KOLA Nuclear power plant, and a nuclear sub dump site as per a note on Kent's site: "The KOLA Peninsula is more than just a Sub Dump site. It is also home to two of the oldest and most dangerous Nuclear Power Plants in Russia, The KOLA Nuclear Power station. This event is located extremely close to these plants, however I have been unable to get exact lat & long for them." Some links about the nuclear plant are below the earthquake list. Bottom line?... beats me. Here's the data.. someone who knows more than me can decide what it all means.
