CONFUSING REPORTS ABOUT ASTEROID 2002NY40 Orbit diagram

[TB2K]

08-13-2002 06:49 PM
**Minimum distance is now .0006509 AU or about 1/4 the distance
to the moon, based upon 515 observations and 7 discards.
This has changed from a minimum of approximately lunar distance
a week or so ago and there only five more days for revisions.
Break out the tin hats ... This could get interesting**.

Reset Panic Mode ... Everyone can go back to sleep. :-)
0.0035223 Nominal
0.0035213 Minimum
Both about 330,000 miles or ~ 1.3 x lunar distance
( Look 2/3 of way down for 2002/08/18 )
602 Observations
7 discarded
It looks to me like they may have made a mistake
yesterday on the calculations. I think they owe
us a big ´Ooops ... Sorry´** Gift of the Asteroid Asteroid Observation KENT: Hope somebody can take a picture of this rock

Asteroid 2002NY40 Info needed

Friend: any more news on tis rock? http://newton.dm.unipi.it/cgi-bin/neodys/neoibo?objects:2002NY40;main

Friend: still question mark?

BARDSQUILL: The figures are jumping all over the place, makes no sense to me.

Friend: me neither...even dates changing

BARDSQUILL: Now these figures:
element value 1-sigma variation
a (AU) 2.03962 2.833e-06
eccentricity 0.710119 4.372e-07
inclination (deg) 5.771 1.121e-05
Asc. node (deg) 146.857 9.905e-06
Arg. perih. (deg) 268.279 3.149e-05
M (deg) 332.259 6.374e-05

BARDSQUILL: yesterday the sigma was at .0004+

Friend: think they changin em just to mess with us?

BARDSQUILL: I was told that sigma is a margin of error figure

Friend: yea...sigma usually about standard deviations etc...margin of error

BARDSQUILL: so I went away, whew, yesterday thinking that the 003.3 AU might go up and down a little but not much...

BARDSQUILL: But now this error figure is HUGE
