Congress says back off North American integration Yet another dark, secretive and anti-American initiative by the Bush crime organization: the surreptitious unification of the USA, Canada and Mexico. I've got no problem with Canada, but Mexico is another story entirely. Bushie keeps denying it but he the few documents that have come to light seem to indicate that unification without putting the issue squarely before the American people and Congress is the objective. Concern Over Wider Spying Under New Law Clearly, the President has either been given by Congress or arrogated to himself without Congress too much authority to snoop into the lives of Americans. Now, Congress expresses belated concern that it may have given Bushie more such power than he sought (I doubt that, since the power he and Cheney seek is limitless, but this is the way that it's being spun, with the help of the ever-helpful Times editors). The signal characteristic of it is that recommends that government coerce citizens to take shelter underground near the blast areas and absorb a certain amount of not immediately lethal radiation rather than attempt escape, since that would expose them to more rads and block arteries through which relief efforts would supposedly be traveling (of course, during Katrina we saw how well that worked). Note also the reference to the plans for succession in government in the event that the blast took place in Washington being "necessarily secret." Why in the hell is secrecy necessary for something like that? The succession should be publicly known so that legitimacy can be assured.
