High Sunspot Count, CME's, Glowing Comet and Full Solar Eclipse...06/17/01
by Mitch Battros (ECTV)
Wow, what a combination. All within days of each other, such a cosmic combination just has to be connected. Is it possible 'something' is causing an ever increasing sunspot count, which in turn is causing large solar flares and CME's? And how about this coming 'full solar eclipse' which happens to fall on the exact day of the Summer Solstice, June 21st. Now throw into the mix, a ever brightening comet known as "Linear C/2001 A2".
Was this written in ancient text? Yes indeed. There has been mention of such a conjunction in the Mayan text as well as Hopi Prophecy. It has been suggested there is also mention in Sumarian, Tibetan, and Dogon text. So what does all this mean? Some suggest it is the 'moment of awakening'. I would say it will not be thunderbolts from the heavens, but rather a slower more subtle evolving awakening. Much more on this in a coming article early next week.
A spectacular coronal mass ejection (CME) erupted near the Sun's western
limb on Friday. Although the expanding cloud does not appear to be heading
directly for Earth, the CME's "bow shock," generated as it plows through
medium, could strike our planet's magnetosphere Sunday and trigger geomagnetic activity. Another less impressive CME billowed away from the vicinity of sunspot group 9502 early Friday. Our planet's magnetic field might experience a glancing blow from that cloud as well.
Sunspots = Solar Flares = Magnetic Shift = Shifting Ocean and Jet Stream Currents = Extreme Weather (mb)
A shock wave preceding Friday's coronal mass ejection accelerated a large number of subatomic particles toward Earth. During the hours after the eruption the flux of 10 MeV solar protons surrounding our planet soared to approximately 100 times normal. Such radiation levels, while high, pose no appreciable hazard to air travelers, astronauts or satellites. The now-subsiding radiation storm is a NOAA S1-category event.
Comet C/2001 A2 (LINEAR), which crumbled and brightened as it neared the Sun on May 24, 2001, is flaring once again as it heads for a late-June close encounter with Earth. Glowing at visual magnitude 3.3, the comet's fuzzy head is visible to the unaided eye and its tail is a lovely sight through binoculars, say observers. Sky watchers south of the equator can spot comet LINEAR easily in the eastern sky between 4am local time and sunrise.
Although this comet is too far south for many to enjoy now, it will make an appearance in northern skies later this month. By June 30th (the date of the comet's closest approach to our planet at 0.24 AU) it will lie ~30 deg. above the eastern horizon before dawn as seen from mid-northern latitudes.
Stay tuned as we venture "to understand the past, which will tell us of our
present, which directs us to our future." (mb)
Thought for the day:
"I need to know my purpose."
Your purpose? (responds with a firm
but softly spoken "Yes") Your purpose is to experience. Your purpose
is to focus on your essence. Your purpose is to experience a physical
lifetime. You cannot guide others. They will guide themselves.
You must focus on your own interaction with your own essence. It will affect
others. You must understand that you cannot change others. You
must focus on your own experiences and your own essence.
