GROUP: Well it appears that we have been right all along. The
object that TMG discovered is
apparently coming into to view more and more. The orbit was pegged by our
members at 30-32 day. And here we are exactly 30 days later and SOHO is shut
down - and perhaps for good! Concerns: Is the shut down just to keep certain
of us under control? Are the objects a threat to the Earth?
Another huge flare fails beyond forecast to disturb earth (maybe, keep watch).
EDITOR: Is anyone else troubled by wild hunches? Why does earth seem to be recently under a shield?

GENERALLY UNSETTLED TO ACTIVE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED ON THAT DAY. PERIODS OF MINOR AND POSSIBLY MAJOR STORMING ARE POSSIBLE SHOULD THAT DISTURBANCE ARRIVE AS EXPECTED. QUIET TO UNSETTLED GEOMAGNETIC CONDITIONS ARE FORECAST FOR 23-24 DEC.

FLARE FAILS TO IMPACT (MAYBE, KEEP WATCH)The geomagnetic storm that was predicted by the SEC, based on Dec 18th's observed CME, failed to materialize and the SEC is no longer forecasting any significant effect from that event... therefore the official forecast is for quiet to unsettled conditions for the next three days. We only have Yohkoh now to monitor this event up closely
STD: At the time of this writing, a long-duration class M2.4 x-ray flare was observed reaching a maximum at 07:02 UTC on 23 Dec. The loss of SOHO has impeded a correlative analysis at other wavelengths.

At this time, approximately two hours later, the Xray readings are just now dropping below the M-Class threshold making this a moderate to long duration flare event. The event originated from region 8415 which has just recently come onto the solar disk and will be in an increasingly geoeffective position as it transits the disk during the next several days.New Millennium
