I found no warnings during the month of October. However, there is a report from NewsMax of air-traffic control being overheard rerouting planes because "there are rockets being fired in the area." Here's that report: http://www.newsmax.com/showinsidecover.shtml?a=1999/11/1/101212 After receiving many reports from people hearing that Flight 990 landed at Edwards Air Force Base in California but then the story was denied, I went to search the AP wire. Indeed, the AP reported that Egyptian TV quoted EgyptAir officials who said that the plane made a stop at Edwards Air Force Base after departing from LA. The relevant excerpts from those articles are below (the URLs will go down 14 days after initial post). Reuters then reported the denial from an FAA official, who said "This Edwards story has got to stop." One would assume that EgyptAir officials would have immediate knowledge of their plane's itinerary. Another oddity was that only one person got off at JFK, and he works as a grief counselor for families of air-crash victims. He was speaking at a press conference hours after the crash, and, according the report below, never mentioned he'd been on the plane. That's got to be one of the more bizarre twists I've ever heard of: one man walks off the flight, a guy whose job will be to console the families of those who didn't get off. MSNBC calls it an "odd twist." Also included below is a time-line for the plane reported by the AP. =================================================================== REUTERS Sunday October 31 10:16 AM ET US Coast Guard Finds Body From EgyptAir Crash By Leslie Gevirtz ... Ed McLaughlin works for the Family Enterprise Institute, which helps airlines notify family members of air accident victims. MCLAUGHLIN EVEN PARTICIPATED in a news conference eight hours after the plane went down, describing his work to reporters. "We work with EgyptAir to try to help the families with the notification process," he said. "At the moment we’re struggling to get everything together." The high points go something like this... The President of the United States is about to leave for Oslo for a Middle East Summit. In a disturbing and bizarre departure from normal commercial airline practice, an EgyptAir passenger plane bound for Cairo leaves LAX and then stops at Edwards AFB for undisclosed reasons. The fact that it landed at Edwards is confirmed very early, and then denied completely. At cruising altitude, or 33,000 feet, the plane suddenly drops from the sky at such a high rate of speed, approximately 7,000 feet every 12 seconds, that Mary Schiavo, a national expert on air safety, estimates the plane was pulling 6 to 10 g's when it vanished from radar. The obvious question is what could have knocked the plane so abruptly from its stable flight path? A bomb? A missile? But the intelligence assets in television news focus instead on other possibilities. An electrical problem? A structural defect? A mechanical malfunction? Shortly after the accident, but after he has read the passenger list, including, we can assume, the names of the foreign nationals aboard, New York's Mayor Guliani speaks only of the American lives lost, describing how he saw names of individuals from all over America. He fails to even mention the Egyptian, Sudanese, and Chilean persons who also perished. Could this stunning breach of basic decency and long-established diplomatic protocol have been intentional? Twenty-four hours later, we learn that two Syrians were aboard. Earlier lists had only revealed passengers of American, Egyptian, Sudanese and Chilean nationality. Forty-eight hours later, we learn that thirty Egyptian military officers were also aboard, including some involved in Apache attack helicopter training. But whether this training occurred at Edwards AFB is neither confirmed nor denied. No mention is made in the mass media of the actual identities of the non-Americans aboard. I think we now have enough information to call this one. This was a major terrorist incident, and we are now watching a major effort at damage control unfolding. Andrew D.
