Subj: TWENTY-TWO SO CAL QUAKES SINCE MIDNIGHT
Date: 1/29/02 8:34:25 AM Pacific Standard Time

Kent,
Below is the eq list for Calif. for past two days. 22 already this morning, and it's only 8:30 a.m. PST. Didn't count yesterday's.
Plus FIVE states appear to have radar rings THIS MORNING -- plus Michigan & Montana yesterday.
(Wish Doug would get 'em up.) Somebody seems to be gunnin' us. Is there a connection?

Lucy Stone says they are "aftershocks of Northridge." Somehow that perspective doesn't quite sit right, but then,
the USGS wouldn't want to scare anybody, would they? Keep the sheople calm?

I dunno. Doesn't look good to me. I got a lot of relatives in LA.

Swarm starting with magnitude-4.2 centered in Simi Valley area
Published 10:30 p.m. PST Monday, Jan. 28, 2002

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - Three small earthquakes, all believed to be aftershocks of the deadly 1994 Northridge quake, rattled a wide section of Southern California on Tuesday night but caused no injuries or damage, authorities said.

The first of the quakes, magnitude 4.2, struck at 9:53 p.m. and was followed minutes later by magnitude-quakes of 3.9 and 3.8, respectively.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injury, said police Lt. Ken Tacke, who added that everyone at the Simi Valley police station felt the temblors.

"It was fairly mild. It was a small, quick jolt and then right after that a much harder jolt," said Associated Press photographer Mark Terrill, who lives in Simi Valley.

The second quake struck at 10 p.m., followed by the third at 10:08 p.m, according to the Southern California Seismic Network in Pasadena.

All were centered six to seven miles northeast of Simi Valley, which is about 35 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. The first quake was felt 40 miles away in Pasadena, as well in much of Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley and Hollywood sections, as well as the city of West Hollywood.

Seismologist Lucy Jones of the U.S. Geological Survey in Pasadena said all of the quakes could be classified as aftershocks to the 1994 Northridge quake.
